The Doobie Brothers Make Triumphant Return to Beacon Theatre for Pair of Sold-out Historic Shows
November 26, 2018...The Doobie Brothers made a triumphant return to New York City's legendary Beacon Theatre for a pair of sold-out shows on November 15 and November 16. The band performed their Toulouse Street and The Captain and Me albums, plus a few select hits, marking the first time the band has played any of their albums in their entirety and their first time to play the theatre in 25 years. Fans traveled from around the world for these historic concerts, many attending both nights. The band's high energy had the capacity crowds on their feet from the first song.
Platinum-selling Toulouse Street and double platinum-selling The Captain and Me feature many of the classic-rock band's most notable songs, such as "Listen to the Music," "Jesus is Just Alright," "China Grove," "Long Train Runnin," "South City Midnight Lady," "Without You," and "Rockin' Down the Highway." These albums established the group as one of the most iconic bands of their generation.
"It was great being back in the Beacon Theater again, such a beautiful venue! Re-doing both Toulouse Street and The Captain and Me live with all the tracks we have never played over the years, as well as the hits and deep cuts, was an experience unlike any I have ever had onstage. And the audience was phenomenal with their response! Great shows," says Tom Johnston (guitars/vocals).
"I think the acoustics at the Beacon are some of the finest of any theatre I can think of. It’s also such sacred ground to so many other artists who have played there before us like The Allman Brothers, Steely Dan, Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, and so many more. It’s easy to feel inspired in a place like the Beacon. I’m so glad we finally decided to do it," adds Patrick Simmons (guitars/vocals).
"It was really quite an experience to revisit all the songs from the two albums - a real musical adventure. Actually performing a number of the songs in concert for the first time ever felt like a truly special shared moment for everybody there at the Beacon," says John McFee (guitars, pedal steel, dobro, fiddle, banjo, cello, harmonica, vocals).
