FRANKLIN, TN, April 14, 2017– With more than 400 recordings to his name, Steve Dorff’s songs have been covered by chart-topping artists that include Barbra Streisand, Ringo Starr, Celine Dion, George Strait, Garth Brooks, B.J. Thomas, Ray Charles, Whitney Houston, Smokey Robinson, Reba McIntire, Christopher Cross, Willie Nelson, Gladys Knight, Dolly Parton, and Alison Krauss. The upcoming rare performance from California-based Dorff will include a selection of hits and the personal stories behind the songs. The Franklin Theatre presents “An Evening with Steve Dorff” on Friday, May 5th at 8pm.
Steve has 3 GRAMMY and 6 Emmy Award Nominations, over 40 BMI Awards, and 14 Billboard #1 Awards. He has 15 Top 10 Hits including “Through the Years” by Kenny Rogers, and his legendary success extends to motion picture, television, recorded music and theatre.
Dorff’s work includes, “I Cross My Heart,” originally recorded by Bette Midler but never released. “Everybody and everybody passed on it for 8 years. People told me ‘you’re crazy’ and ‘not one of your best,’” said Dorff. The song also turned into a No. 1 hit for George Strait.
“For songwriters like me, we’re the Oz behind the curtain, we’re the soundtrack to other people’s lives; they identify with these songs. I’ve been recording, writing and producing for so many acts, working with them in a studio capacity. Now, I can get back behind the piano and let people put a face to the songs.”
Guest artists will also be appearing in tribute to Dorff’s son, Andrew, a gifted and successful Nashville songwriter, who recently met an untimely death. Steve and his late son both have songs climbing the country charts currently with Garth Brooks and Rascal Flatts, respectively.
Tickets can be purchased at franklintheatre.com or by calling the Box Office at 615-538-2076. Live music presented by the Franklin Theatre is sponsored by Jackson National Life.
