Highway Wolf Recognizes Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center

San Francisco, CA, March 3, 2025Highway Wolf is proud to spotlight the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC), a sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned and injured wildlife in Portage, Alaska. AWCC provides permanent homes for animals in expansive, natural enclosures while leading crucial conservation efforts, including wood bison restoration and beluga whale monitoring. Among AWCC’s many residents are four gray wolves—Deshka, Bri, Dirus, and Lothario—who serve as ambassadors for their species, educating visitors about the vital role wolves play in maintaining ecological balance.

AWCC’s commitment to conservation extends beyond rescue, partnering with organizations like the U.S. Forest Service and NOAA Fisheries to reintroduce species into the wild and advance critical research. The center offers immersive educational experiences, allowing visitors to witness the wolves' natural behaviors—from Deshka’s watchful leadership to Lothario’s playful antics. Executive Director Sarah Howard shares, “At the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, we are proud to partner with Highway Wolf to protect and preserve wildlife. Their unique work sends a powerful message about the importance of protecting wolves and ensuring they thrive in their habitats. Together, we are dedicated to fostering awareness, education, and conservation efforts that will leave a lasting impact.”
