Beauty And Ruin, Starr’s latest project, is a musical and literary adventure, produced and arranged by John Oates and co-produced by himself and David Kalmusky. The collection of songs is inspired by Of What Was, Nothing Is Left, a novel written by his grandfather in 1972. The album and new edition of the book are set for release February 2020.
“This song found its way into the record by way of a vivid dream while in the hospital for surgery in August of 2018,” explains Starr. “My father and grandfather came to me as if to tell me that things would be alright despite the life-threatening nature of my medical situation.
“Later, I sent a rough demo to John Oates with a brief narrative about the song,” Starr continues. “He took it to another level with his arrangement and sensitive lyrical additions. It feels inexorably connected to the book and to the whole journey of making this record.”
Exclusively premiered with The Bluegrass Situation, the music video is a stunning visual representation of the song, filmed on location in beautiful Cedaredge, Colorado. The video was directed and shot by Jason Lee Denton.
