Cartoonist Guy Gilchrist Celebrates Artober Nashville with an Exhibit at InDo Nashville
September 29, 2015, Nashville, TN…World renowned cartoonist and songwriter, Guy Gilchrist partners with InDo Nashville to launch the exhibit "20 years of Nancy: Celebrating the Art of Guy Gilchrist" in celebration of Artober Nashville. The display, which opens October 5, will feature original ink drawings of some of Gilchrist's favorite Nancy cartoons, his hand painted guitars, and other works. There will be an artist reception on Tuesday, October 6, from 6 - 8 p.m. where Gilchrist will autograph books, cartoon, and perform.
The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public. Exhibit hours are Monday - Friday, from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. , October 5 - 30. InDo Nashville is located at 632 Fogg Street, in the SoBro neighborhood of downtown Nashville.
The event is part of Artober Nashville (http://www.artobernashville.com/), the month- long celebration of arts and culture hosted by the Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission and NowPlayingNashville. Artober Nashville is held in conjunction with National Arts and Humanities Month, as designated by Americans for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
About Guy Gilchrist
Guy Gilchrist is the award winning author and illustrator of the iconic comic strip Nancy and over 40 children's books. Gilchrist is currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of his stewardship of Nancy, having drawn over 7500 strips of the comic, which is syndicated internationally in 80 countries, in 400 newspapers, with 57 million readers. Under the direction of Jim Henson, he created wildly successful The Muppets comics which ran from 1981-1986. Throughout the years, he has set his hand to such notable cartoons as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, Fraggle Rock and The Pink Panther and was instrumental in the creation of The Muppet Babies. The series was also awarded the Bank Street Award for Best Book of the Year - 1998. He is a three-time Best Book of the Year award winner from the International Reading Council of the United Nations, for the Tiny Dinos book series. His latest project, Nancy and Sluggo Love Tennessee: A Story about Keeping Tennessee Beautiful is a children's book which teaches the importance of protecting nature, recycling and not littering and is a partnership with the organization Keep Tennessee Beautiful.
A strong supporter of charities and children, Gilchrist has been honored for his contributions by Vanderbilt Hospital, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Hartford Children's Medical Center, Shriners Hospitals, and The Angelus. An active supporter and voice for the military and veterans' causes, Gilchrist has been honored by the armed forces and veterans organizations for his support and work.
